
Born in South Africa, Kotze began playing rugby at a young age before moving to Edmonton, Canada at 14. He continued his development with the Strathcona Druids and progressed into the Pacific Pride national development program. He earned selection into Canada’s extended national team squad and later represented the country at the international level.
He began his professional career with the Dallas Jackals in Major League Rugby, where he developed into a consistent starting hooker. He made a strong impact during his time with Dallas, including a breakout 2024 season where he finished among the league’s top try scorers and earned All-MLR Honorable Mention honors.
He joined the Seattle Seawolves ahead of the 2025 season after being selected in the dispersal draft. In his first season with the club, he appeared in 16 matches and started half of them, while continuing to deliver consistent performances on both sides of the ball and reaching 50 career MLR appearances.
Kotze represents Canada at the international level and has been influenced by mentors including Dan Meikle and Jamie Cudmore. Outside of rugby, he enjoys traveling and gaming and has pursued schooling in power engineering.
