
Born in Queenstown, South Africa, Smith began playing rugby at the age of seven through school programs. He developed through Queen’s College Boys’ High School and progressed into the Blue Bulls system, where he also represented South Africa at the U20 level.
He began his professional career with the Blue Bulls before moving to the Cheetahs and later competing in the PRO14 and Currie Cup. He gained experience across top competitions in South Africa and established himself as a reliable scrum half.
He joined the Seattle Seawolves in 2019 and has been a key leader within the team since. He is one of the most experienced players in Major League Rugby, surpassing 100 appearances with a single club and leading all scrum halves in career tackles while helping the team win a championship and reach multiple finals.
Smith has represented the USA Eagles at the international level and continues to lead by example on and off the pitch. Outside of rugby, he works as a farmer and enjoys golf and hunting.
